PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper holder capable of holding a put-in paper roll by one operation, regardless of directionality, cutting the paper roll by picking a pickup margin at the end of the paper, so as to pull out an arbitrary amount of paper, and forming the pickup margin for subsequently pulling out the end of the paper after cutting the paper. SOLUTION: The paper holder includes: a holder body having a sliding and projecting cutter at the side end edge; and a case for holding the paper roll to be elevated/lowered inside the holder body. A roll for holding the paper end of the paper roll is disposed in the mutual part of a side end edge of the holder body and an end edge of the case. The paper held by the roll is cut with the cutter and the cutter is retracted by sliding after cutting. Thus, the pickup margin is formed at the paper end by one operation.
