A method and system for providing sponsored content on an electronic device (102) are provided. One implementation involves, in the electronic device (102), providing sponsored content based on information locally available to the device (102), and generating an indication of said sponsored content provided on the device (102) to a compensation tracking device (103) for tracking distribution of at least a portion of compensation from a sponsor of the sponsored content to a manufacturer of the device (102) for said providing sponsored content.
