PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric motor that efficiently dissipates the heat generated in field coils. SOLUTION: This electric motor comprises a rotor 11, a stator 10, on which the field coils 4 which generate rotating magnetic field causing the rotor 11 to rotate are wound, and a cylindrical casing 2 which accommodates the rotor 11 and the stator 10 inside. A mold part 17 integrally covers the outside surface of the stator 10 and the field coils 4. A recessed part 2d is provided on the inside circumferential surface of the casing 2; while the stator 10 is fixed to the casing 2, in such a way that a refrigerant passage 20, which functions as a passage for cooling water, is formed with the inside surface of the recessed part 2d and the surface of the mold part 17.
