A method for setting a communication channel and an image receiving apparatus using the same are provided to reduce probability to set the same communication channel to reduce interference between communication channels, thereby reducing the distortion of an image. A method for setting a communication channel comprises the following steps: starting wireless communication between a set-top box and a TV(S310); determining an MAC(Media Access Control) address included into a communication request signal received through a trasnceiving unit is identical with the MAC address of a control unit in the TV(S320); and searching a communication channel from a preset channel search start point if it is determined that the MAC address is identical with the MAC address of the control unit(S330).
