A novel compound and a liquid crystal composition comprising the same are provided to have high refraction anisotropy and be used to construct a sight angle compensation film with high quality capable of improving contrast ratio and minimizing color change in accordance with the sight angle under the black state. A compound is represented by a formula(1), wherein G^1 is a group 1 or a group 2; V is H, CH2, CH2CH3, F, Cl, Br, or CF3; X^1 is O, NH, C1-12 alkylene or a monovalent bond; A^1 is C1-12 alkylene, C2-12 alkenylene, (CH2CH2O)n, (CH2CHCH3O)n, or (CHCH3CH2O)n(where n is an integer from 1 to 5); W is H, CH3, CH2CH3, or C6H; Y^1 is O, NH, C1-18 alkylene, CH=CH, C=C, C(=O)O, OC(=O), C(=O), a monovalent bond, SiH2, SiMe2, SiEt2, CH2SiH2, CH2SiMe2, CH2SiEt2, SiH2CH2, SiMe2CH2, or SiEt2CH2; a group 3 is a group 4 or a group 5; a group 6 is a group 4 or a group 7; E^1 is a group 4, a group 8, a group 9, or a group 10; each a, b and c is independently an integer from 0 to 2; each Q^1 to Q^8 and R^1 to R^4 is independently H, F, Cl, Br, I, CN, OH, CH3, CH2CH3, CF3, or C(=O)CH3; and Z^1 is H, F, Cl, Br, I, CF3, CN, OH, OCH3, OCH2CH3, OCF3, C1-12 alkyl, or C2-12 alkenyl. A liquid crystal composition comprises 1-80 wt.% of the compound of the formula(1). An optical film uses the liquid crystal composition. A liquid crystal display device comprises the optical film.
