A production method of a magnetic transfer master carrier, the method including forming an imprint resist layer on a surface of a magnetic layer of a laminate which includes a first base material and the magnetic layer laminated thereon; forming a resist pattern, following shapes of concave portions of a mold, on the surface of the magnetic layer by pressing the concave portions against the imprint resist layer; and forming magnetic convex portions on the first base material by removing the mold from the imprint resist layer and then etching a surface of the magnetic layer which surface has no resist pattern, wherein the mold includes a second base material and the concave portions formed by etching a surface of the second base material so as to correspond to a pattern of information to be recorded on a magnetic recording medium.
