PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus which can reduce a possibility that an ACS carries out erroneous decision because of the wear state of a document reader or vibration of a document sheet used by a user. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a means for reading a chart including the parts of edge of a white region and a black region and computing color shift information which serves as a criterion, a means for storing the color shift information used as a criterion in a memory storage area in association with the type of sheet of the chart, a means for comparing the color difference information extracted from a document inputted externally with the color shift information used as a criterion and outputting a color decision signal for performing color decision, and a means for performing color decision of the document by using the color decision signal.
