PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus that controls heating for a fixing roller in consideration of user's various operations to thereby improve power saving effect. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes: a discrimination means for discriminating user's operation associated with probability of operating a fixing means; and a control means for controlling the temperature of the fixing means gradually based on the discrimination. That is, when user's every operation gradually approaches the operation of the fixing means, that is, printing, the temperature of the fixing means is gradually elevated with these operations as a trigger. On the contrary, when the operation separating from printing such as facsimile transmission is gradually performed, the temperature of the fixing means is gradually lowered.
