PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fine nickel oxide powder which is suitable for an electronic part material and of which the sulfur grade and chlorine grade are low, and a method for industrially stably producing the powder. SOLUTION: After an aqueous nickel chloride solution containing magnesium is neutralized with an alkali, the resultant nickel hydroxide is cleaned and then roasted at 450-650°C to prepare nickel oxide. This nickel oxide is cleaned with an aqueous organic acid solution or is simultaneously cleaned and disintegrated, thus eliminating chlorine. The resultant nickel oxide powder has a chlorine grade of 300 mass ppm or lower and a specific surface area of 6-12 m<SP>2</SP>/g. COPYRIGHT: (C)2009,JPO&INPIT
