<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell capable of: sufficiently supplying reactant gas to a catalyst layer while preventing a reactant gas from leaking from the peripheral part of a gas diffusion layer; reducing cost; and simplifying a manufacturing process. <P>SOLUTION: The fuel cell includes a membrane-catalyst layer assembly 12 having an electrolyte layer 1 and a pair of catalyst layers 2a, 2b between which an inner portion than the peripheral portion of the electrolyte layer 1 is interposed; a pair of sheets 3a, 3b formed so as to have air permeability by containing conductive particles and binder resin and so as to cover the pair of catalyst layers 2a, 2b, respectively; and a pair of conductive separators 7a, 7b.
