Disclosed is a method for reducing carbon dioxide, which comprises: a step in which an electrode (a working electrode (41)) that contains a carbide of at least one element selected from among group V elements (vanadium, niobium and tantalum) is brought into contact with an electrolyte solution (47); and a step in which carbon dioxide is introduced into the electrolyte solution (47) and the thus-introduced carbon dioxide is reduced by the electrode. The material that contains a carbide of at least one element selected from among group V elements (vanadium, niobium and tantalum) and is contained in the electrode is a carbon dioxide reduction catalyst of the present invention.
