Arsenic cpds. are removed from gaseous hydrocarbon mixts., mainly 1-3C with a smaller amt. of higher hydrocarbons, by treatment with a hydrocarbon mixt.: with boiling range 30-200 degrees C; the initial gaseous hydrocarbon is sepd. into an As-free 1-2C hydrocarbon fraction contg. small amts. of higher hydrocarbons, and a mixt. of As cpds. and higher hydrocarbons. The As cpds. are catalyst poisons and must be removed before catalytic processes such as hydrogenation.
