<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display, the visual angle property of which has been improved at the time of black display. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display with retardation of Δn(λ)×d includes: an optical compensation film; and a cellulose acylate film satisfying the predetermined optical performance. When the sum of in-plane directional retardation of the optical compensation film at the wave length λ is denoted as Re<SB>sum</SB>(λ), and the sum of retardation in the depthwise direction is denoted as Rth<SB>sum</SB>(λ) at the wave length λ, the liquid crystal display satisfies following expressions (I) to (IV) at least at the different two wave lengths between 380 to 780 nm. (I) 200≤Δn(λ)×d≤1000, (II) Rth<SB>sum</SB>(λ)/λ=A×Δn(λ)×d/λ+B, (III) Re<SB>sum</SB>(λ)/λ=C×λ/äΔn(λ)×d}+D, (IV) 0.488≤A≤0.56, B=-0.0567, -0.041≤C≤0.016, and D=0.0939. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2006,JPO&NCIPI |
