PURPOSE: A short arc typed discharge lamp is provided to prevent damage to a hydrogen getter by protecting a cover formed with a high-melting-point material. CONSTITUTION: A hydrogen getter(30) seals a getter material adsorbing hydrogen within a seal hollow vessel consisting of the hydrogen permeability material. The hydrogen getter is installed in an electrode shaft. An arc tube forms a discharge space. A pair of electrodes form the electrode shaft which is continuously installed in an electrode body. A cover(50) forms a communication hole connecting an internal space and a discharge space.
