FIELD: process engineering. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to reactor and method of producing polymer with low content of unreacted monomer. Proposed method is used in either completely vertical conical reactor with the angle between reactor top diametre and inner wall making less than 90, but over 45, or in reactor incorporating 2 to 5 jointed vertical absolutely conical parts arranged one above the other. Note that each said part forms the angle between its top diametre and inner wall smaller than 90, but over 45. Water mix comprising monoethenoid unsaturated monomer or mix of monoethenoid unsaturated monomers and initiator is fed into reactor top part, monomers are polymerised to produce gel water mix to be extruded from the reactor using inert gas.
