OPTICAL WAVELENGTH MULTIPLEX TRANSMISSION SYSTEM

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mitigate influence by a nonlinear optical effect relating to an optical wavelength multiplex transmission system for wavelength-multiplexing and transmitting the phase modulated optical signals of 40Gbps and intensity modulated optical signals of 10Gbps or below.

SOLUTION: The optical wavelength multiplex transmission system for wavelength-multiplexing the phase modulated optical signals whose transmission speed is high and the intensity modulated optical signals whose transmission speed is lower than that of the phase modulated optical signals and transmitting them by an optical transmission line includes: a demultiplexer 3 for demultiplexing wavelength multiplexd optical signals corresponding to wavelengths; and optical attenuators 6-1 to 6-n corresponding to the wavelengths. The optical attenuators 6-1 to 6-n are controlled so as to reduce the intensity of the intensity modulated optical signals compared with the intensity of the phase modulated optical signals depending on whether the optical signals corresponding to the wavelengths are the high-speed phase modulated optical signals or the intensity modulated optical signals, and the wavelength multiplexed optical signals for which the optical signals output through the optical attenuators 6-1 to 6-n are multiplexed by a multiplexer 7 are transmitted to the optical transmission line.
