PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gene transfer agent comprising a cross-linked product which solves problems such as gelation and side chain degradation, is high in gene transfer efficiency, and is excellent in metabolism and degradability in living bodies and excretion from living bodies. SOLUTION: In the gene transfer agent comprising a cross-linked product prepared by mutually cross-linking a plurality of branched polymers which each has an aromatic ring as a nucleus and a plurality of branched chains radially extended from the aromatic ring, the terminals of the branched chains are SH groups, and the cross-linked product is prepared by binding the terminal SH groups of the branched chains to each other. The branched polymer is preferably a branched polymer prepared by applying a photo-radiation living polymerization of a vinylic monomer to a compound having three or more N,N-di-substituted dithiocarbamylmethyl groups in the same molecule as an iniferter.
