PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a Zn-Mg-based plated steel sheet having workability equal to that of a hot-dip galvanized steel sheet while securing excellent corrosion resistance, and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The hot-dip Zn-Mg-based plated steel sheet has a plating layer in which a Zn-Mg-based intermetallic compound phase comprising, by mass, 0.1 to 2.0% Al, 3.0 to 10.0% Mg, and the balance Zn with inevitable impurities, and in which a Zn-Mg-based intermetallic compound phase with the average major axis of 1 to 200μm is present, included on the surface thereof. Further, the hot-dip Zn-Mg-based plated steel sheet is obtained by performing plating treatment in a plating bath composed of, by mass, 0.1 to 2.0% Al, 3.0 to 10.0% Mg, and the balance Zn with inevitable impurities in such a manner that the temperature of the plating bath is made higher than the liquidus temperature of the alloy having a composition in the plating bath by 10 to 80°C and then performing cooling at the average cooling rate of 1 to 100°C/s from the plating bath temperature to the solidification of the plating.
