The cane has a folding or deployment mechanism comprising rings (7) and locking pins (5) that are actuated with springs (6). The springs are placed in cooperation on various coaxial sections comprising an upper section (1), an intermediate section (2) and a lower section (3). The rings ensure automatic unlocking in a cascade of the locking pins carried by the sections during folding when the upper section is unlocked and pressure is applied between the two ends of the cane. A return spring is positioned between the rings and a sleeve (8). An independent claim is also included for a method for unlocking a collapsible cane.
