Fluorocarbon polymer material (A) comprising a fluorinated backbone and at least one chain with pendant quaternary ammonium group, is claimed. Fluorocarbon polymer material comprising a fluorinated backbone and at least one chain with pendant quaternary ammonium group, is claimed, where the main chain has a structure of formula (-(A) r-CH 2-C(R4)([(Y1CH 2CH 2) m-(Y2-(CH 2) n) m1-R1] s-CH 2-Z)-) (I). Z : quaternary ammonium group; Y1, Y2 : heteroatom comprising O or S; A : fluorinated or perfluorinated 2-6C linear chain; R1 : phenyl or aryl group of formula (-CR2R3-); R2, R3 : alkyl (optionally substituted with one or more halo); R4 : H, alkyl or haloalkyl, cyclic or acyclic group or -[(Y1CH 2CH 2) m-(Y2-(CH 2) n) m1-R1] s-CH 2-Z, preferably 4-aza-1-azonia-bicyclo[2.2.2]octanylmethyl; m : 0-10, preferably 0-3; and m1, n, r, s : 0 or 1, provided that when s is 0, then R4 is other than H. An independent claim is included for the preparation of (A) comprising copolymerizing at least a first monomer comprising fluorovinylic monomers and a second monomer of formula (CH 2=C(R4)-[(Y1CH 2CH 2) m-(Y2-(CH 2) n) m1-R1] s-CH 2-Z1) (II).
