<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide management of power loss situations in a utility grid. <P>SOLUTION: There is provided an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) (10) enabled device (22, 40), program product, and communication system (26, 44). The AMI (10) enabled device (22, 40) is described that includes a power failure detection system (24, 42) that constructs a power loss message in response to a detected loss of power and the communication system (26, 44) for transmitting messages over a network.
