<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to retrieve access-restricted information and/or information on the Internet, and make a portable terminal display information on the retrieval result which can be displayed on a PC, regardless of the communication carrier or model of the portable terminal. <P>SOLUTION: When a user inputs a retrieval key showing information which he/she wants to retrieve to a portable terminal 2, the portable terminal 2 transmits the input retrieval key to a retrieval server 1. When the retrieval server 1 receives the retrieval key from the portable terminal 2, it connects to a content provision server 3 and searches for contents corresponding to the retrieval key in a content DB 31 and acquires it. The retrieval server 1 compresses and converts the acquired contents for compatibility with the portable terminal 2 and transmits the contents to the portable terminal 2.
