PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a bill handling apparatus that can use part of bill storage parts of the bill handling apparatus for several purposes while suppressing deterioration in bill feed efficiency and feed reliability. SOLUTION: The bill handling apparatus 101 includes a first bidirectional feed passage comprising bidirectional feed passages 10a-10f, a second bidirectional feed passage 20 connected to the bidirectional feed passage 10a or bidirectional feed passage 10f, and a gate 25g for selectively connecting the bidirectional feed passage 10a with the second bidirectional feed passage 20 or connecting the bidirectional feed passage 10f with the second bidirectional feed passage 20. The bidirectional feed passage 10a is connected with recycling chambers 72-74. The second bidirectional feed passage 20 is connected with a leftover bill chamber 60, a loading/collection chamber 70 and a reject chamber 71. For example, the loading/collection chamber 70 can be used as any of chambers for bills to be loaded, bills to be dispensed, bills to be recycled, bills to be collected, bills to be left over, and bills to be rejected.
