The present invention relates to a heavy metal adsorption removing agent including red mud pre-treated with an acid and a method for removing heavy metal from fresh water or sea water using the same wherein the red mud, which is an industrial byproduct, is pre-treated with an acid solution and used as a heavy metal adsorption removing agent, thereby having an outstanding effect of removing heavy metal compared with an existing adsorption agent like steelmaking slag, montmorillonite and illite and being used for removing heavy metal from fresh water or sea water.
