摘要 Embodiments of apparatuses and methods to decrease a size of a memory in a low-latency video communication system are described. A control unit is configured to monitor a condition associated with at the communication link. The control unit is configured to receive the video content over a link based on monitoring. A memory comprising a full-frame buffer is coupled to the control unit. The full-frame buffer is configured as a history buffer to store a full frame of the video in a coding format that matches the coding format of the video content received over the link. A display unit is coupled to the history buffer. A portion of the full-frame buffer is configured as a network streaming buffer.

A receiver apparatus to store a video content in a video communication system, comprising: a control unit to monitor a condition, the condition indicative of an instantaneous quality of a video communication link based on at least one of a video communication link and the video content, the control unit configured to receive the video content via an encoded data stream over the link based on the monitoring; a full-frame buffer coupled to the control unit to store a frame of the video content in a coding format that matches the coding format of the video content received over the link; a history buffer to store at least a portion of the video content already displayed; and a display unit, coupled to the history buffer and the full-frame buffer, to display video content from the full-frame buffer and the history buffer, selective upon the condition monitored by the control unit, wherein the display unit comprises a decoder which decodes encoded video data.
