PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide Rankine cycle working fluids in which contribution to ozone depletion, greenhouse effect, and global warming can be discounted in comparison with conventional halogenated hydrocarbons; and to provide a method for converting thermal energy to mechanical energy by using the same.SOLUTION: This invention relates to a method for converting thermal energy to mechanical energy in a Rankine cycle, comprising: vaporizing a working fluid with a thermal heat source; expanding the resulting vapor and then cooling with a cold heat source to condense the vapor; and pumping the condensed working fluid. The compounds preferably includes CF3CBr=CF2, C3F3H2Cl, CF3CF=CFCF2CF2Cl and CF3CCl=CFCF2C, or the mixture thereof. |
