PRODUCTION METHOD OF PHENOL NOVOLAC RESIN, PHENOL NOVOLAC RESIN, INSULATING CURED PRODUCT, AND RESIST MATERIAL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a phenol novolac resin composition that has high heat resistance and can be used as a photoresist material, a production method of the phenol novolac resin by which a molecular weight of a phenol novolac resin can be easily increased, and an insulating cured product and a resist material using the phenol novolac resin.SOLUTION: The production method of a phenol novolac resin includes: a step of mixing phenols including m-cresol with 1,4-bis(methoxymethyl)benzene, aldehydes, and a first catalyst to carry out an addition condensation reaction of the phenols and the aldehydes; and a step of adding a second catalyst after the step of carrying out the addition condensation reaction and before carrying out distillation by heating under reduced pressure. The second catalyst is an acidic catalyst having an acid dissociation constant (pKa) of -2 or lower.
