<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tape printer for raising convenience in putting the character string of a foreign language, and to provide a character string conversion device and a character string conversion method therefor. <P>SOLUTION: Dictionary data Sd stores multiple registration character strings in association with Kana (the Japanese syllabary) character strings expressing the readings. Language information expressing the language is associated with the respective registration character strings stored in the dictionary data Sd, thereby specifying the language of each registration character string among the four languages, i.e., Japanese, Chinese (simplified characters), Chinese (traditional characters), and English. When the Kana character string is input by a keyboard 11, a CPU 31 extracts the registered character string corresponding to the Kana character string from the dictionary data Sd, and displays the registered character string in a display part 12 as a conversion candidate. A language mark relative to corresponding language information is added to each displayed registered character string.
