SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR THE PRODUCTION OF JOB LEVEL PRE-PROCESSED BACKUP OF CRITICAL DATA AND/OR DATASETS IN A MAINFRAME COMPUTING ENVIRONMENT

A system determines the datasets to be utilized by a batch job prior to commencement of the batch job. A snapshot of each dataset to be utilized is created. The created snapshot is replicated and a record related to the snapshot is created in a backup table. In the event of disruption of the batch job during processing, each replicated snapshot can be restored and the batch job restarted.

a processor; a storage device accessible by the processor; and a backup management program in the storage device, wherein execution of the backup management program by the processor configures the system to implement functions, including functions to:
create, based upon a trigger in a job, a collection of datasets related to the job, the job comprising:
one or more commands to be executed by the processor, each command including a job step within the job; andone or more dataset references, each dataset reference including a dataset name of a dataset to be accessed by a related one of the one or more commands; andfor each dataset in the collection of datasets:
create a snapshot backup of the respective dataset; andrecord, in a backup activity dataset, an indication of the created snapshot backup.
