<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a therapeutically important antibiotic and a pharmaceutical composition thereof. <P>SOLUTION: This invention relates to an 18-membered macrocyclic antimicrobial agent generally called as tiacumicin, especially OPT-80 (consisting almost completely of R-tiacumicin B), a pharmaceutical composition containing OPT-80, and a method for using OPT-80. Especially, the compound is a medicine for treatment of bacteria infectious disease, especially Clostridium difficile infection.
