In certain example embodiments a component includes an asymmetric glass substrate that includes at least first, second, and third surfaces. The third surface can be laminated to a photovoltaic sub-assembly. The first surface can structured to be angled away from a vertical plane of a building at an angle of between 5 and 40 degrees. The first surface may be longer than the second surface.

An array of components adapted for use with a building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) or a building adapted photovoltaic (BAPV) system, the array of components comprising: each component comprising an asymmetric glass substrate including first, second, and third surfaces when viewed in cross section, the asymmetric glass substrate including a plurality of sections each having the first, second and third surfaces and each of which is substantially triangular shaped in cross section such that the third surface is longer than the first and second surfaces and wherein each of the sections includes an apex at the top of the substantially triangular cross section so that each of the components includes a plurality of apices, wherein: the third surface is adapted to be laminated to a photovoltaic device, the first surface is configured to angle away from a vertical plane of a building at an angle of between 5 and 40 degrees, and the first surface has a length that is greater than a length of the second surface; wherein first and second of the components are located parallel to and adjacent to each other but offset relative to one another, so that the apices of the first component are offset from and not linearly aligned with the apices of the second component.
