An air extractor system for removing hot air, combustion gases, and other vapours from kitchens and other processing plant comprises an extractor canopy 100 having a top sheet 101 and an air extraction duct 105 leading from the canopy. An energy recovery system for collecting waste heat from the air extractor system comprises first heat recovery means 103 mounted immediately above the top sheet and preferably overlaid by heat insulation material, second heat recovery means 112 mounted adjacent the exterior of the air extraction duct, a fluid circulation system 90 and a thermal storage device 117 connected to the circulation system. The first and second heat recovery means transfer heat energy to respective portions of the fluid circulation system, with heat transfer fluid, e.g. water, circulating therethrough. The energy recovery system leaves the underside of the canopy and the interior of the extraction duct free of any obstacles. |
