Provided is a brake device in which a stroke sensor for detecting the amount of stroke of a brake pedal can be installed at low cost. A brake device is configured in such a manner that: a stroke sensor for detecting the amount of axial stroke of a piston is installed between one side surface of a master cylinder housing and one side surface of a valve housing, and the output of the stroke sensor is transmitted to a control unit through a through-hole provided in the valve housing, the control unit being mounted to the other side surface of the valve housing.
