PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a compound having a dye structure suitable as a pigment dispersant, a pigment dispersant containing the compound, a pigment composition, a pigment dispersion and a toner.SOLUTION: There is provided a manufacturing method of a compound where a polymer part and a dye part are connected via a connection group including (a) a process of polymerizing a vinyl group-polymerizable monomer represented by the formula (A) by a living radical polymerization with using a radical initiator having a protect group to obtain a polymer having the protection group at a terminal, (b) a process of hydrolyzing the protection group of the polymer having the protection group at the terminal obtained in the process (a) to deprotecting the polymer and (c) a process of connecting the deprotected polymer obtained in the process (b) and a dye via a covalent bond. In the formula (A), Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group and Rrepresents a phenyl group, a phenyl group having a substituent, a carboxyl group, an alkoxycarbonyl group or a carboxamide group. |
