METHOD FOR LINEARIZING ATTENUATION MEASUREMENTS TAKEN BY SPECTROMETRY SENSOR

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for linearizing attenuation measurements obtained by means of a direct conversion spectrometer.SOLUTION: A spectrometer comprises a radiation source 110, and a detector 151 for detecting the radiation after it has passed through an irradiated object. An attenuation measurement is represented by a vector giving an attenuation of the radiation in a plurality of energy channels of the detector. The spectrometer is characterized by a response matrix. By means of an iterative process, a vector called an equivalent linear attenuation vector is estimated and gives for each energy channel an attenuation linearly depending on the thickness of a material through which the radiation passes.
