PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide resin for a retardation film, which has superior heat resistance and, when molded into a sheet or a film, exhibits a superior balance between birefringence and reverse wavelength dispersion property, or in other words, to provided resin for a retardation film which has superior heat resistance, high in-plane retardation, and low wavelength dispersion property of in-plane retardation.SOLUTION: Polyester resin for a retardation film is provided which contains as polymerization component, a diol component (A) and a dicarboxylic acid component (B), and in which the diol component (A) contains a 9,9-bis (hydroxy (poly) alkoxy aryl) fluorene component (A1), and the dicarboxylic acid component (B) contains an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid component (B1) and non-fluorene aromatic dicarboxylic acid component (B2). It is preferred that the dicarboxylic acid component (B) has an alicyclic dicarboxylic acid component (B1) content of greater than 80 mol% and a non-fluorene aromatic dicarboxylic acid component (B2) content of less than 20 mol%. |
