摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of manufacturing a membrane electrode assembly for a solid-state polymer fuel battery that can sufficiently exhibit an effect of enhancing power generation performance because of provision of an intermediate layer between a catalyst layer and a gas diffusion layer, and paste for forming an intermediate layer suitable for the manufacturing method.SOLUTION: A method of manufacturing a membrane electrode assembly has (a) a step of coating the surface of a first carrier film 50 with paste for forming an intermediate layer, the paste containing carbon material, polymer and liquid medium and having a viscosity coefficient of 250 to 450 mPa s which was measured at a shear rate of 200 (1/s) and at 25°C by using a viscometer RE550 for flow analysis (produced by Toki Sangyo Co., Ltd.), thereby forming a first wet membrane 134, (b) a step of coating the surface of the first wet membrane 134 with paste for forming a catalyst layer, the paste containing catalyst, ion exchange resin and liquid medium, thereby forming a second wet membrane 132, and (c) a step of drying the first wet membrane 134 and the second wet membrane 132 and forming an intermediate layer 34 and a catalyst layer 32.
