In a wireless communication system, a cell may perform a method for obtaining demand measurement data indicative of demand by one or more terminals for wireless service provided by the cell, and adapting a backhaul configuration of the cell based at least in part on the demand measurement data. The cell or network node may determine whether to adapt the backhaul configuration, based at least in part on the demand measurement data. The determining may include detecting a change in demand for use of the small cell by terminals that are not members of the small cells closed subscriber group (CSG) that exceeds a threshold amount. The method may include changing an access mode of the small cell, in response to detecting the change in the demand. For example, changing the access mode may include changing from restricted access to open access, in response to detecting an increase in the demand. |
