The application relates to device discovery of wireless communication apparatuses, in particular game apparatuses. In order to discover the presence of all apparatuses in its vicinity, a searching apparatus (X) sends out search requests by broadcast and waits for corresponding search response signals. However, the search response signals are sequentially transmitted and received. Therefore, the more the number of apparatuses (A-I) in the vicinity, the longer the time it takes to receive all response signals. Furthermore, the searching apparatus (X) can spend only a short time on searching, e.g. because the search channel is either switched to a different channel or the search channel is occupied by another communication. This problem is solved by the application in that at least certain apparatuses (B) transmits not only their own search response signals but also the response signals of other apparatuses (A, C, D), such signals are being referred to as proxy response signals. When an apparatus (B) receives a response signal of another apparatus (A, C, D) it registers the response and sends it in combination whit its own response to the searching apparatus (X) according to a priority which will avoid collision.
|
