PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for fractionating polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) into a fraction of non-ortho PCBs, and a fraction of mono-ortho PCBs and non-DL-PCBs.SOLUTION: A fractionation instrument 200 has a tube body 210 that is filled with both a refinement layer 220 and an absorption layer 230, and the absorption layer 230 comprises: a first absorption layer 240 that includes both an active-carbon-containing silica gel layer 241 and a graphite-containing silica gel layer 242; and a second absorption layer 250 that includes an alumina layer 251. When a PCBs solution is injected into the refinement layer 220 and then an aliphatic hydrocarbon solvent is supplied, PCBs in the PCBs solution pass through the refinement layer 220 and the absorption layer 230. At this time, among the PCBs, non-ortho PCBs are absorbed by the first absorption layer 240, and mono-ortho PCBs and non-DL-PCBs are absorbed by the second absorption layer 250. Accordingly, the PCBs are fractionated into a fraction of non-ortho PCBs, and a fraction of mono-ortho PCBs and non-DL PCBs. |
