摘要 To the polycarboxylic acid used in the parent case is added a resin acid, i.e. all natural or artificial resin-like products which contain one or more free carboxyl groups or unsaturated fatty acid of the higher series as derived from natural fats or oils which acids may be partly or completely esterified with alcohols, preferably with polyhydric alcohols. The products may be employed as plasticizing agents for oil varnishes, cellulose derivative varnishes and as plasticizers and catalysts in the manufacture of phenol-aldehyde resins. As resin acids may be used colophony, Kongo copal, Manila copal, Kauri copal, the acid synthetic resins obtained by the condensation of natural resins with phenol-formaldehyde condensation products and the purely synthetic acid resins such as the condensation products of salicylic acid and formaldehyde. As unsaturated fatty acids there may be used the acids of drying oils such as linseed oil fatty acids, wood oil fatty acids or castor oil fatty acids, their glycerol esters such as the oils themselves or their esters with other polyhydric alcohols such as glycol, polyglycol, polyglycerol or mannite, the alcohols being partially or wholly esterified such as monoricinoleic acid glycol ester, mono- or di-linseed oil acid glycerol ester. In examples (1) succinic acid, French colophony and diethanolamine are heated together giving a resin soluble in ether, acetone, ethylacetate, benzol and benzine and capable of forming a film with a nitrocellulose varnish. (2) Technical triethanolamine and linseed oil acids are heated together to give a product insoluble in water which is further heated with phthalic acid anhydride. (3) Adipic acid, French colophony and triethanolamine are heated together to give a product suitable as a softening means for nitrocellulose varnishes. (4) Phthalic acid anhydride, adipic acid, French colophony and tributanolamine are heated together. (5) Phthalic acid anhydride, French colophony, monoethanolamine, and glycerol are heated together giving a resin which forms weatherproof nitrocellulose varnish films with nitrocellulose wool. (6) Phthalic acid anhydride, diethanolamine, a polymerized glycerol such as diglycerol and the acid resin produced in accordance with Specification 259,030 but not neutralized by alcohols or metal oxides are heated together. (7) Colophony, phthalic acid anhydride and diethylmonoglycerylamine are heated together giving a resin soluble in acetone, ethylacetate, benzol and diethyl ether but insoluble in alcohol. With nitrocellulose and suitable solvents it yields light-resisting varnishes or lacquers. Specification 259,030, [Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.], is referred to.
