RAPID TEST FOR REJECTION OF USED OIL BY EMPLOYING WICKING IN POROUS MEDIA

The invention relates to a rapid test based on wicking of a repeatedly or prolonged used oil into porous media for determining whether the oil is to be rejected. Comparison between the wicking front penetration after the submersion of two stripes of the same porous media into the: (a) fresh oil and (b) used oil under examination permits to rapidly and accurately judge whether the oil complies with official legislations and acknowledged standards for secure re-use. Typical examples of repeatedly or prolonged used oils are met in food frying, internal combustion engines, petrol adulteration, solid waste treatment etc. However, the present invention is not limited to these examples and applies to all possible cases where intense use of oil deteriorates its quality to below accepted standards.
