An image forming apparatus for forming an image on a recording medium includes: a main body which includes an image carrier on which a latent image is formed and can be coupled and decoupled with a cartridge including a developing device, which develops the latent image on the image carrier; and a transfer unit which can be coupled and decoupled with the main body in addition to the cartridge and transfers a developer image formed on the image carrier. The developing device includes a developer carrier and can move between a contact location where the developer carrier comes in contact with the image carrier and a separation location where the developer carrier is separated from the image carrier. The transfer unit includes a developing device contact and separation device, which moves the developing device between the contact location and the separation location. |
