A checking apparatus for checking documents, in particular checks and the like, is specifically designed to provide a composite solution for verifying checks compliant with the ABI standards related to credit instruments concerning anti-fraud systems; said apparatus performing a simultaneous verification of all identifying parameters present on each check and a corresponding cross comparison, the indicating parameters being: a MICR (Magnetic Ink Character Recognition) parameter, a bi-dimensional barcode, a micro-perforated string, fluorescent wisps or straw elements and/or an infrared checking ink.
