[Class 80 (ii)] The description and drawings are identical with those of Specification 427,470, but the invention claimed is transmission mechanism comprising in combination manuallyselective gear mechanism X between a driving-shaft A and an intermediate shaft A<2>, and automatically-controlled variable - speed mechanism B, C, D between the shaft A<2> and a driven shaft A<1>, which latter mechanism comprises a speed-responsive clutch M connected to the shaft A<1>. The automatic mechanism comprises a sun gear B fast on the shaft A<2> connected to an internally-toothed ring D fast with the shaft A<1> by an eccentric doubly-toothed ring gear C supported on a carrier J, G which is prevented from turning backwards by a one-way brake O. The clutch M is of the multiple-plate type and is arranged between a flange K<1> on the carrier J, G and a drum F rigid with the internal gear D. The clutch M is controlled by centrifugal weights N carried by the driven gear D. The selective mechanism X may be of any suitable type such as the two-speed and reversing gearing operated by segment and rack selector mechanism V described in Specification 427,471. |
