<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a flood of imitations by more surely preventing an imitation of a thermal head. <P>SOLUTION: A PLD 70 mounted on a circuit board 40 of the thermal head 10 reads an on/off state of a jumper circuit formed on the circuit board 40, generates a code based on the read on/off state, and stores and holds it in a memory.
