The present invention includes a method of identifying one or more rifamycins, or analogues or metabolites thereof, that are present in a biological sample from a subject that is being administered a rifamycin-containing medication. The present invention further includes a method of adjusting and/or optimizing the dosage regime for a rifamycin-containing medication.
