[Class 46] Solid matter is separated from coal slurry partly by filtration and partly by settlement in a rotary drum having pockets J formed by inwardly-projecting partitions E and peripheral filtering faces H. The partitions E may be formed as hollow filters. The spaces G outside the filters H and the interior of the filters E are connected to suction. The solid material falls from each pocket as it rises above a hopper L from which the solid is discharged by a conveyer N. Slack coal may be added to the slurry under treatment which is supplied to the filter through a hopper D. Water from which much of the solid has been separated overflows at K. Slurry which has been collected in a conical silo may be classified by means of screens before delivery to one or more filter drums as described. According to the Provisional Specification the pockets are disconnected from suction and connected to a source of positive pressure as they rise to the position where the solid matter falls into the hopper L. |
