This catalyst for hydrogen combustion comprises a support constituted of an inorganic oxide and catalytic metals supported thereon, and is characterized in that the terminal of each of hydroxy groups of the support surface has been replaced with a functional group having at least one C3 or lower alkyl group, that platinum and palladium are supported as the catalytic metals, and that the chlorine content is 300-2,000 ppm of 1 mass% the total amount of the platinum and palladium supported. The total amount of the platinum and palladium supported is preferably 0.1-5.0 mass% with respect to the mass of the whole catalyst. When the catalyst for hydrogen combustion according to the present invention is used to treat a gas containing iodine and hydrogen, the catalyst is inhibited from being poisoned by the iodine.
