The present invention provides a medium processing device and medium transaction device with which a simple configuration makes it possible to perform transport processing associated with depositing and dispensing of a medium. In a bank note depositing and dispensing machine (10) of an automatic teller machine (1), a transport route inside a transport unit (13) is formed so as to be mainly linear along the front-back direction. In depositing processing, the bank note depositing and dispensing machine (10) performs deposit counting processing by causing deposited reject bank notes to be collected in a transport route collection unit (22S) inside a second transport unit (22) and determining and storing a transport destination of each bank note on the basis of a differentiation result obtained by a differentiation unit (14); and performs deposit storage processing by transporting bank notes that have been fed out from a temporary holding unit (15) to the determined transport destination and storing said bank notes therein. In dispensing processing, the bank note depositing and dispensing machine (10) determines the transport destination of the bank notes on the basis of a detection result in a travel sensor (31) of the differentiation unit (14).
